POSITION SUMMARY:Assist administrative and clinical team members by performing a variety of clerical and clinical duties to ensure departmental function within the practice as well as departmental compliance in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Such duties include, but are not limited to: Taking vital signs, phlebotomy duties, scribing, translation, wound care, post-operative visits, assisting providers with patients, making appointments, taking calls from patients, pharmacies and other physician offices. Participates in volunteer programs and special assignments, and performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice. POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:High School graduate or G.E.D. certificate preferredCompletion of Medical Assistant Program requiredBLS Certification required, or must be obtained within 90 days of hireAbility to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues requiredOrganizational skills necessaryGood written and verbal communication skills requiredAbility to read, write and speak EnglishAbility to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physiciansPhysician office experience preferredPhlebotomy experience preferredJOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:Two (2) years' experience in a busy physician office preferredOne (1) year phlebotomy experienceAbility to take vital signs to include, but not limited to: height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, and pulseMust have computer experience and must be able to learn IS systemPrevious experience with an EMR system preferredMust have excellent customer service and organizational skillsRequires reasoning ability and good independent judgementPOSITION RESPONSIBILITES:Perform basic administrative medical assisting functionsAssist in obtaining patient history, chief complaint and vital signsSchedule, coordinate and monitor appointmentsUnderstand and adhere to managed care policies and proceduresKeep rooms neat, clean and well stocked with suppliesSet up rooms as needed for in office proceduresAssist physicians with in office procedures as neededMonitor schedule in order to ensure that medical records needed from other physicians or hospitals are obtained prior to patient coming into the office for scheduled visitVerify insurance and obtain prior authorizations for visits, procedures and medications as neededComply with quality assurance practices Screen, collect and follow up on patient test resultsCollect and process specimens accurately and timelyPerform diagnostic and laboratory tests and wound care as necessaryAdhere to established patient screening procedures at all timesAssist with the authorization, preparation, and administration of medicationsMaintain accurate medical recordsAuthorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies as neededPrepare and maintain all patient files in an orderly fashionFile and or scan faxed information in charts after review by provider as necessaryEnsure that positive results or stat results are provided to the practitioner in a timely mannerPerform referrals to other providers as needed and contact patient with appointmentsPerform inventory of supplies and equipment as necessaryClean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies as neededAnswer and direct all phone calls appropriately Effectively communicate and work well with other staffHelp patients to navigate patient portals as neededAdhere to assigned projects and tasksVolunteer for special assignments and projectsPerform other assigned duties and be flexible to cover areas as neededPerform basic reception and billing functionsOther duties as assignedLINES OF REPSONSIBILITY: Lead 2. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. C.Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
