The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Community Health Worker II to serve as a member of the Texas A&M School of Public Health. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of community outreach experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting participants in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Job Summary: The Community Health Worker II, under general supervision, recruits participants for the S el Hroe project, assesses community health needs, and serves as liaison between community members and project research staff in addition to assisting with data collection and program development, implementation, and evaluation.

Required Education and Experience:

+ Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Four years of related experience in public health, health outreach, and education.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

+ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

+ Knowledge of health care education.

+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

+ Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

+ Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.

+ Ability to speak English and Spanish.

+ Written skills in English and Spanish.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

+ Department of State Health Services (DSHS) certification, certified CHW, Promotora Certification of Training, or ability to successfully complete Promotora Certification.

Preferred Experience:

+ Two years of related experience in working with community members, stakeholders, and completing research and outreach activities.

+ Experience providing CHW trainings.

+ Public relations and marketing experience.

Responsibilities:

+ Program Planning & Implementation: Participates in participant recruitment, program planning, implementation, and evaluation.

+ Program Instruction: Serves as "Be the Hero" instructor for CHW and farmworker formal, structured programs.

+ Program Communication: Communicates with "Be the Hero" participants, serving as a liaison between program research staff and community members and participants.

+ Program Events: Plans, organizes, and participates in community outreach events, health fairs, and workshops.

+ Program Records: Assists in coordination and communication of "Be the Hero" program records.

+ Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

+ Flexible hours including weekends/evenings.

+ Some travel may be required.

+ Must be resident of State of TX Hidalgo County and have valid driver's license.

+ Must have access to reliable transportation for work in Hidalgo County.

+ Must have access to/own computer with internet access for work and communication purposes.

+ Position is contingent on funding and will possibly end on 8/31/2022.
