community! General Description In coordination with the Claims &
Lawsuits Lawyer, handle disputes, advise internal business clients,
and litigate cases as counsel-of-record (under supervision) and/or
in collaboration with outside counsel. Will also provide general
legal advice and support on business matters in a fast-paced
environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze claims and formulating litigation and early case
resolution strategy
- Conduct fact investigations and legal research
- Draft legal papers, including case-related correspondence
pleadings, briefs, declarations, discovery demands and
responses
- Represent Popular during court proceedings (including federal
and state court appearances), arbitrations, mediations, and
depositions
- Advise the Claims & Lawsuits Lawyer on strength of claims and
defenses, dispute avoidance and resolution
- Respond to third-party subpoenas
- Manage and work collaboratively with outside counsel, as
needed
- Work closely with the Claims & Lawsuits Lawyer on a broad
variety of litigation, dispute resolution and risk management
issues
- Prepare witnesses for hearings and depositions
- Maintain the company's litigation matter management system
EducationJuris Doctor required and admitted to the practice of law
in the Commonwealth of Puerto RicoExperience Minimum of three years
of experience in securities law, corporate law, corporate
governance and/or transactional work, legal advice or litigation in
the corporate and securities area. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(KSA's)
- Possess knowledge of local and federal laws, with particular
emphasis on securities laws and laws and regulations applicable to
public companies.
- Experience in handling corporate governance matters, including
knowledge of applicable local and federal regulations.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, both
verbal and written, and in particular, excellent legal drafting
skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work
with multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- High degree of commitment, ability to adapt to new situations
and work under pressure.
- Excellent legal research skills.
- Outstanding analytical ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to solve situations and present solutions
effectively.
- Skills to develop and maintain good interpersonal
relationships, anticipate needs, present alternatives to solve
situations and provide continuity and follow-up on matters.
- Capacity to handle high volume of work and ability to work with
minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of the following programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
